Perry Malik - This has been the worst day of my life, seeing my strong family fall into tears as my Baby Brother passes away so he can finally rest after his long, brutal and courageous battle with DIPG😔. You had so much support by your side, from Family and Friends throughout which kept us as a family positive❤. You had a great family by your side that will remain forever💪. Your only Sister, who would cheer you up, help you endlessly and make you laugh❤. Bailey and Heston, who were always by your side, would make you laugh and protect you as always❤. Curtis, the big strong brother who you looked up to, loved being around and gave so much support to you💪. Mum, who would always be by your side, giving you lot's of hugs and kisses when you were sad and down, and make you feel comfortable throughout this brutal fight😔. Your Dad, who would be trying his best everyday since your diagnosis to find new and different ways to ensure he is helping you in every way possible😔 Lastly, Me, who I believe we spent some great times together that I will certainly never ever forget❤
As a Family we tried so hard to make sure you were always happy and spend quality time with you😔❤.
I could see in your eyes that you were tired and you were trying so hard to stay with us, but today I think you deserved a good long rest...
I will miss your cute, bright and bubbly smile that I Cherish and Treasure in my mind❤😔.
RIP Sumner
See you soon my brother ❤

Leonie Harris - Yesterday i lost one of my best friends, sumner you taught me so much about life and to smile through everything. And for curtis, perry, torrie heston and bailey you inspired me every single day to stay strong and keep going for those around you. Cam and sue words can’t explain how amazing you were to all of them and how you were so amazing to sumner and cared for him every single day with a smile. I’m going to miss sumner so much. Rest in peace i love you so much ☀️💛

Kit Pearman - This weekend Squash player Sumner Malik passed away following a two-year battle with cancer. He was 12 years old.
Along with his siblings Sumner had visited Bluecoats on countless occasions to represent Sussex. Before and after his battle begun his laughter would echo around the court walls for hours.
His sense of humour set him aside from the rest. In this picture, taken a few months ago, he is expertly mimicking the stance of Sussex Coach Graham Stevenson. He also once landed Graham in hot water with Club Management after filling the lift with furniture. Sumner’s grin, too wide for his face to control, earned his immediate forgiveness.
Squash can be a brutal game, so much so that we sometimes ask ourselves if it’s worth the effort. Sumner played throughout his battle and reaffirmed to us all that sport is a privilege and luxury, and we are all so lucky to have the opportunity to take part in it.
On behalf of myself and Bluecoats I would like to thank his family for sharing him with us. Our thoughts are with them and his friends at this tragic time.

All my love and hugs to you all 😭💔
Sorry just isn't enough.

Jo Parish & Stuart Parish - Our Sumner sunshine bear so beautifully made by Sumner's mum Suzan Malik will forever be part of our family. Shining a light for the new star in the sky ☀️
So many of you were so kind to donate to #sunshine4sumner when I took part in the London Marathon. Which meant that you all made a difference to Sumner. The money raised by myself and Stuart Parish squash marathon meant we may have given him an extra day an extra week or an extra month... Which yesterday I took comfort in as we said goodbye.
Sumner took his last journey to the squash club and his final journey to rest. It was the most beautiful and emotional service I will ever know. So much thought and love went into the day to make it so beautiful for Sumner. From the amazing colourful hearse to the funeral directors wearing yellow ties with sunflowers on the cars.
Sumner's brothers, sister, cousin and friends did the most amazing speeches and songs and camron finished off playing the beugal which Sumner loved so much.
Sumner has touched our lives in a short time and he will forever be remembered ☀️🌻☀️🌻

Ben Hutton - Dearest Sumner
You are an inspiration to all.
Perry thought that he and myself put Sussex back on the map. I disagree. You my friend put Sussex back on the map. Everyone knows the boy from Sussex in the battle of his life. The boy who always fought with a smile. You taught us rivalry and competition means nothing when faced with a real battle. You fought it every step of the way with a smile on your face. You always had time for us and you never complained, even though we knew you were suffering.
We are all truly devastated and will miss you everyday. We will especially miss you assisting us at county squad and your amazing impersonation of GS showing poise and balance in his Squash pose.
The squash world lost a warrior but your light and Legend will live forever.
RIP Sumner Malik (a true champion)

Michael South - Sumner Malik was a lovely boy. Only 12 years old yet brave. An inspiration. His laughter was infectious and would always make you laugh and smile with him. He had a 23 month battle with D.I.P.G. A childhood cancer. At 2:15 today (11.8.18) we lost Sumner. I'm heartbroken.
My thoughts, love and condolences are with his family who loved and cared for him. I'm truly sorry that Sumner is no longer with us and can only imagine what you are going through.
Super Sumner. Your light shone so brightly, may it never fade.
“Perhaps they are not stars,
but rather openings in heaven
where the love of our lost ones
pours through and shines down upon us
to let us know they’re happy.”

Michael South - Yesterday was one of the saddest days of my life. Yesterday i said goodbye for the last time to Sumner Malik who passed away on Saturday 11th August. He was 12 years old.
On the 13th i wrote down my thoughts in an effort to sort them out and came up this. Goodbye Sumner 😢
"Our Sumner, our sunshine,
Our wonderful boy.
Full of life and full of joy,
You had to leave,
You had no choice,
It's silent here without your voice,
Your families sad,
your brothers, sister,
your mum and dad,
Your missed you see,
The way you laugh, the way you grin,
The hole you've left now your not in,
The help you gave to play the game,
The saying of a new friends name,
At school you gave all you could do,
And left sad friends behind you too,
The peoples lives that you have touched,
The ones that you've inspired,
Those that care and those that share,
All wish that you were there,
You were brave until the end
All our love to you we send,
Our travels end with our goodbyes,
Your angel wings up in the skies,
Now it's time for you to go,
It's far too early, that we know,
Your shining light will never fade,
Nor the happy memories that were made
Of you, our Sumner, our sunshine,
Our wonderful boy."

Jo Enoughoftherare Bishop - Summer has passed away after fighting dipg for almost two years, he was diagnosed in September 2016. Sumner fought with courage, strength and an amazing amount of grace as he and his family sought and attempted many things to try and save his life. They fought together as a family and Sumner went through it all with a smile on his face, he didn’t complain about the cruel cards he was dealt. He taught us all to stand up and face our fears, to never give up and to be kind and compassionate to the others you meet on your journey. He touched all our hearts and we will never forget him. Please keep his family and all who love him in your thoughts and prayers.
The bravest are surely those who have the clearest vision of what is before them, glory and danger alike, and yet notwithstanding, go out to meet it.

Rebecca Harber - Sumner you put up an incredible fight to win the war against DIPG! I will never forget our time together. How insane it is that we are both the youngest of triplets. That we both happened to be 11 miles away from each other to meet up in Florida when we live half way across the world from each other. So glad we met up. I will never forget Christmas dinner, riding the caurosel, eating ice cream and going shopping that fun night. And of course the snake prank when you definitely pulled when over me convincing me you had a pet snake and you brought it from England to Give Kids the World. Forever in my heart Sunshine for Sumner. Thinking of your whole family right now. Love you all! 💛💛

Cheryl Gooden - Today was probably 1 of the most hardest days of my life 😢 We saw Sumner 🌻 going on his final journey to meet the Angels. It was the most amazing, beautiful but heartbreaking 💔 day. The Malik family sure did give the gorgeous, loving, caring, always smiling, cheeky, little man a truly great send off & the service was so beautiful, there wasn’t a dry eye in the church 😭 Broke my heart to see my family of men cry too but Aiden made us proud ☺️ We didn’t have enough time with Sumner but we need to treasure the memories we have of him forever in our hearts 💕 Our love & thoughts are with his family right now, only God knows how they are really feeling inside but I hope he can heal them of their sadness. RIEP little man 🌻💛🧡❤️🌻💛🧡❤️🌻💛🧡❤️🌻💛🧡❤️🌻
Reigate Squash Club - For all RSC’s members who have followed the amazing Malik family, it is with a heavy heart that we have to let you all know that Sumner passed away at 2.15pm today. He fought DIPG for two years and our thoughts and love go to the Camron, Sue, Curtis, Perry, Torrie, Heston and Bailey. 💔 #teammalik

Donvé Thompson-Boy - Sumner, you are the bravest boy we have had the privilege of knowing. Your infectious smile and incredible sense of humour always made us laugh and it was always such a joy to be around you. You fought hard, with the amazing love and support from your family. Suzan and Camron- we are so sorry for your loss. You’ve walked this journey with Sumner and DIPG over the last 2 years with such strength, dignity and never ending hope. Your courage and the way Team Malik have supported each other is inspirational. Sleep well Sumner; you will be missed so much 💔

Rob Greengrass - This afternoon we were forced to say goodbye to a young man who, at the tender age of 12 lost his brave battle with a cruel, merciless disease after nearly 2 years fighting hard. At every step of that long, arduaous path Sumner would be smiling. Through all the pain he could see the funny side in anything. Whenever we met all I would need to do is look at him and he would laugh (doesn't say much for my looks does it!) but that was his nature. Happy, content, cheeky.
The last time I saw him we did just that, I looked, he laughed and then he winced and cuddled his mum because the thing that made him happy, laughing, caused him pain.
Fuck you cancer, you cruel, bastard disease.
My heart goes out to Team Malik who have stuck together throughout. I am in awe of Camron and Suzan for their tireless battle to do quite literally whatever was possible. I don't know if I could be that strong faced with what they have. C,P,T,B,H I don't know what to say except you're awesome, there's no way that anyone could ask for better brothers and sister.
Life is cruel, life is tough but if there's one thing I do know, it's Team Malik are made of the right stuff.
See ya later me brudda
Love to you all

Zoe Shardlow - Here are a few of my favourite pictures of my young friend Sumner Malik. Many of you will have known him and those who didn't, well, you missed out big time.
Sumner had a wickedly mischievous sense of humour, and a great grin to match, but he was also kind, thoughtful, considerate and generous. He was just a wonderful human being and great to have around.
Last year, Sumner was unable to play alongside his triplet brothers in the Sussex U13 team. This must have been very upsetting for him, but he didn't show it. Instead, he took on the role of assistant manager and helped guide his team to a national victory.
We managed the dream team together at stage 2. Sumner, always knowledgeable, observant and canny, played a vital part in all the big decisions of the day and, despite having difficulty walking and talking, (due mainly to the treatment he had just received) he played his part in full, watching attentively from the balcony then struggling downstairs after every game to advise his men. And it was remarkably astute advice when you compare to others with experience. He could be strategic, he could inspire the player or make them smile and adapt to what was needed so often that it was no longer remarkable. As a coach you let him do his thing.
The picture bottom left shows him advising a player mid county match.
Sumner was always going to be a quality squash player but I think he also had the makings of a great coach. He was always a class act.
His family have been incredible. Beyond brilliant. Nobody could have done more. They went into battle as a team and they gave their absolute best. Their loss is unimaginable and, if anything, the hardest part still lies ahead, as they try to move on without their youngest superhero. But I know nothing will now defeat them.
The survival rate for those with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (brain tumour) is zero percent.
They knew about it for nearly two years before it finally did its worst, taking him at 2.15pm on August 11th 2018.
But the legacy that this brave young man leaves, is that he didn't spend that time dying. With the support of his family, his friends and the wider squash community, he spent every day of those 23 months laughing, loving, LIVING.
Even at this desperately sad time, it's hard to think about him without smiling. He truly loved life and we truly loved him.
Sumner always shone. These may feel like dark times, but I guarantee you - pick any place he’s been and you’ll still see the light.

Lee, Julie, Ella & Thomas Welch - Yesterday we sadly had to say goodbye to the most incredible little boy we have ever met, Sumner Malik ... but he will certainly never be forgotten and the memories we have of Sumner will stay with us forever. He was a very very special little boy and we feel blessed to have had him touch our lives in so many ways.
Below are some of our favourite photos of Sumner & they will forever remind us of the impact he had on our lives. One of our personal favourites is the one when he stepped on court with World #1, Nick Matthew & Nick pointed to where he wanted Sumner to hit his serve ... you just know he nailed it and of course Nick kindly donated his winnings from the Canary Wharf Squash Classic to the #Sunshine4Sumner fund.
Smiles, Squash, Supercars, Fundraising, Friendships, Teamwork, Strength, Fight, Determination, Inspiration are just some of the words that will spark memories of Sumner whenever we hear them in the future.
Camron Sumner Malik Suzan Malik Curtis Malik Torrie Malik Perry, Bailey & Heston aka Team Malik ... we really do feel blessed to have you all in our lives, you truly are an inspirational family and whenever you need us we will always be there. Anje Bryant - The world has lost an incredible super hero. Sumner always had a smile on his face, and I will always remember how inspiring that amazing 12 year old is. Despite all the pain he was in, his aim was always to make other people laugh at jokes and impersonations and he never failed to. He will always live on in our hearts and shine bright over us all❤️⭐️🌞🌻

Colin Bangay - Today we say goodbye to Super Sumner after he lost his courageous battle with DIPG 2 weeks ago. I feel privileged to have known him and to have seen that infectious smile and cheekiness. He was always laughing at something and lived his life with a smile on his face, even throughout his fight with this cruel cancer he never let it beat him. I will never forget you young man, this was the last picture I was so lucky to have with you on 25th July and I'll cherish, you will forever live on in our hearts and continue to inspire all who knew you. So much love for Camron, Suzan, Curtis, Perry, Torrie, Heston and Bailey, our thoughts are with you all ❤❤❤

Stuart Parish - A few of my favourite pics with Superman Sumner. I had the pleasure of being on the court with him a few times which is where he loved to be. I will miss that radiant smile that shone through even in his times of pain. Oh and what a cheeky chap... he put me in my place a few times. That will live on as Perry Malik and Curtis Malik have taken up the mantle, keep them coming boys. I don’t think I’ll meet another young man like him, truly unique and touched my world and many others in way that I can’t express. My inspiration 😘

Kemecsei-Horváth Beáta - It was not a goodbye as we will see him in every ray of Sunshine and every Sunflower.

Beautiful send off for a beautiful little fella taken way too early!!! Honoured to be part of the squash community holding up our rackets.
Extremely hard day today, saying goodbye to an inspirational and funny boy. So pleased we could be a part of things by holding up our rackets in a coat of arms. Beautiful ceremony

Lauren Jayne - Today was possibly one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. I said goodbye to someone who was far too young. Someone who battled the worst type of brain tumour in the world with a cheeky grin. Someone who was a talented little squash player who came from a legacy of talented squash players. A community of individuals came together to pay their respects today and I’m privileged that Cam & Sue let me be a part of their family’s day. I’m in a bar and a single yellow flower was placed on the table and it made me smile. RIP Sumner Paul Malik, 11 August 2018. Team Malik are one hell of a force to be reckoned with.
Tracy Evans E-d - When we got home today we had a butterfly in our house. We have never had a butterfly indoors before. I think the spirits are trying to tell us something especially because it has happened today on Sumners funeral.
Kevin Hendon - Yesterday almost to the day, I attended and played at the funeral of a very brave young man, Sumner Malik, he fought so hard in his battle against this horrible disease (DIPG). My heart goes out to his loving parents Camron Sumner Malik & Suzan Malik and their children who were so brave and helped him so much . Also a big thank you to the guys in the band who were professional as ever, Ray Collins, Anisa Charania, Polly Craig, Peter Lewington, James Williams, Joanne Streeter, Pete N Helen Ticehurst & my sidekick who helped me lead the cortege Jon Salmon. Sumner Malik you will be looked after in heaven by the Woman who has been there exactly 1 year the "Queen". Rest in peace now my strong little friend 💙❤️
Stuart Parish - I used to play this track most weeks when I Dj’d. Never more poignant. If I ever play out again it would be the highlight of my set. As it’s trance it might be a bit heavy but just listen to those lyrics ❤️

Sarah Robiette - Driving back over Salisbury Plain today we passed these.🌻
We stopped like several other people had to take a couple of photos...
But only mine were for Sumner and his amazing family 👌xxxx🌻💛🧡
In my thoughts 💛

Monica Day - We will plant these sunflower seeds in memory of beautiful Sumner, so brave in the fight against DIPG brain cancer. Every time we see a sunflower we will think of him and his lovely family. Big love to all xxxxx
Jon Lee Proctor - I'd like to write this post about an amazing little boy called Sumner Malik and his family.
This amazing little boy inspired countless people through his inspirational fight against a devastating illness. DPIG, DPIG the brain tumour is a truly wicked illness,
Sumner tho never let it get him down. He never let it beat him and his family started an emotional but breath taken fight to get sumner the treatment he needed.
Throughout this time Sumner battled on bravely not letting his illness get the better of him, He continued to play squash, his dad and mum posted regular posts from the cheeky posts about the triplets or the families adventures and about how Sumner was fighting this wicked illness.
For two years Sumner endured soo much but he never once complained, He never once let this illness get the better of him and he refused to be beaten.
During the good times and the bad he had a inspiring family and friends who we're right behind this little boy.
Sadly sumner took a serious turn for the worse this week and his family took him on a last holiday to let him have a great time in the place he loved .. Spain.
On Friday i was taken aback by the news they we're returning home as sumner was becoming seriously ill and they we're returning to hospital.
I'm not a religious man but i seriously prayed hard sumner to pull thought this and to see the cheeky smile of sumner once again.
On Saturday i was informed by his parents of the devastating news that sumner had passed away.
Sumner was 12 years old.
Sumners fight has been one of the greatest fights that any child could endure but sumner was not alone in his fight his fight has inspired soo many from those who knew him personally to those of us who knew him through his dad and families regular posts on facebook.
Sumner touched the hearts of all who he met and even those who he didn't meet personally.
This courageous little boy fought and fought hard we cheered him on with the #sunshineforsumner campaign and we all prayed for him.
I'm deeply saddened to see Sumner pass, I never got the chance to meet sumner in person i never got the chance to see his cheeky smile or see him thump his brothers in a game of squash.
I'm sending all my love all my prayers and all my thoughts to Camron to Suzan To Perry to Curtis to Torrie and to Bailey and Heston at this deeply dark hour.
We should remember Sumners loving smile and his passion and love for squash we should remember that he had an amazing loving family who gave him the best 12 years of his life and we should remember his as the brave fighter that we all loved.
As Terry Pratchett famously said
do you not know that a man is not dead whilst his name is still spoken ..
well sumners name will be spoken as the great warrior against dipg and his name will be spoken forever more.
Sumner rest in peace little man shine high and remember your family forever looking down from the great squash court in the sky remembering them forever.
